Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is a modern, enterprise ready solution that many enterprises are considering to secure their virtual desktop strategy and digital transformation. Business leaders are feeling the pinch from rising Citrix costs, and they want to make the change, but their IT departments may be reluctant due to unfamiliarity with AVD.
Why move to AVD?
With more cloud adoption, Citrix is losing its edge to Microsoft’s fast innovation. Citrix used to dominate desktop virtualization, but now Microsoft solutions like AVD and Windows 365 are leading the market. A 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant report on DaaS solutions shows that Microsoft beats Citrix in delivery and vision for the future of DaaS.
But technology is not the only reason to switch to Microsoft. The Gartner Magic Quadrant report also points out that customers are unhappy with Citrix licensing and pricing. Prices have gone up, and the support experience has worsened due to changes in the Citrix business model, pushing the business to rethink their choice:
- Support costs have increased dramatically for some customers, but there are continual changes and uncertainty with customer support and account management.
- Smaller enterprise customers are no longer supported directly by Citrix itself, raising questions of quality, accountability, responsiveness, and access.
