Upgrading to 3CX Version 20

3CX Version 20 is here!

…and with it are also quite a few changes!

The new 3CX version 20 focuses on hardening security at the backend, to minimize risks for future attacks. Additionally, user logins are now based on their e-mail address with password hashing, removal of passwords from the welcome e-mail, and the introduction of 2FA. The web client can also be locked down by IP for both users and administrators.

The management console will no longer be available, and all administrative tasks will be handled by the admin console. This is done directly from the web interface, thus making management simpler as everything is done from one URL. The new Version 20 also introduces more granular permissions and customizations, using Departments.

In Version 20, Call Manager has been re-written to provide better call centre features. This includes additional queue strategies and enhancements of reporting. Call processing scripts and API will allow businesses to customise and build their own telephony strategies out of the box. Foundations for the use of AI have also been laid for future enhancements.

With Version 20 comes a new and improved Windows Softphone App which can be installed directly from Microsoft Store. This enhances both security and manageability. The new and improved app also includes a VoIP Quality Monitor that can assist users in locating issues they might be experiencing during their calls.

How Veracloud can help

With all the improvements the new 3CX version 20 has to offer, also come a few caveats. Some features we were used to in version 18 are no longer available in version 20. Others might be available using a different logic. Additionally, with the introduction of the new admin console, management can be quite confusing as the interface has changed completely. Things might not be working as one would expect after the upgrade if these limitations were not highlighted before.

This is where Veracloud can help. Veracloud engineers have been closely following 3CX’s progress with the release of version 20. From webinars, partner events, official training and implementing various scenarios in test environments, Veracloud engineers are certified and have tools, to make sure your move to 3cx Version 20 is a smooth one.
