What is Cisco Meraki?
Cisco Meraki provides a full network suite based on the top networking vendor Cisco, which can be managed from a single dashboard from the cloud. Cisco Meraki offers the full networking stack ranging from security appliances (firewalls), a variety of switches and a myriad of access points. It also offers other IoT devices such as smart cameras and environmental sensors. All this managed from a central location on the cloud. Â

Cisco Meraki provides the network administrator with a lot of visibility into their network infrastructure, starting from layer 7 traffic analysis, network health, reporting and alerting. It focuses on operational efficiency using a controllerless approach leading to faster maintenance and faster troubleshooting. It focuses on OPEX rather than CAPEX saving clients 80% of total IT costs that occur after the initial purchase. Meraki delivers OpEx savings in the region of 90% when compared to the more traditional technologies.
Meraki Wireless
As mentioned previously, one of the services offered by Cisco Meraki is the Meraki MR Wireless solution. Meraki Access points features include security features such as WIDS/WIPS, BYOD and quest policies, and DNS layer protection using Cisco Umbrella. Network connectivity to the traditional 802.11ac and Wi-Fi 6, multigigabit performance and also offer 8×8 models for high density deployments. Meraki wireless solutions offer visibility and control through location analytics, wireless health reporting and application traffic shaping per wireless network. SSIDs can also have different authentication methods ranging from traditional Pre-Shared Key (PSK), guest portal authentication, and 802.1x. Â
The Meraki Access Point portfolio offers a variety of models that are sure to meet anyone’s needs. Access point models available include those that cater for indoor and outdoor spaces, hospitality, high performance and high density environments. Access points will also have a radio profile associated with them to make sure wireless signals are used at their optimal capabilities according to their environment. All access points also feature dedicated scanning and BLE Radios. Â
